NHIF registration requirements
You have to meet the following standards to register.
- Ensure you are 18 years of age or over
- Your national ID and of your spouse
- Colored passport photos
- Original and copies of birth certificates of your dependents or spouse
- Introduction letter from employer
- For foreign nationals; a copy of work permit, passport, recent colored picture of your spouses and dependents
- You can go to the NHIF portal and download the registration forms
- Fill in the forms and attach supporting documents

- Go to NHIF portal
- Go to the Menu tab
- Click on Self-employed tab
- Select your identification type Whether Kenyan or Alien
- Complete the necessary field
- Attach by uploading scanned copies supporting documents, e.g., ID card, passport photos, marriage certificate
- Save and submit your application
- You will receive a system notification via SMS
NHIF registration requirement for employers
Employer have the duty of paying monthly premiums for their employees. Here are the steps and requirements when registering their workers.
- Certificate of registration
- PIN certificate
- Fill in the NHIF employer registration form
- Submit this form with the supporting documents
- You will receive a notification from NHIF website and an SMS on your registration status.
