HELB comes in handy for students supplementing their fees in bursary and giving enough to make necessary academic purchases like stationary. The board usually recalls loans one year after the student completes their studies. So how do you repay your HELB loan?
Using Mpesa
- Go to your M-PESA menu,
- Select Pay Bill.
- Enter 200800 as HELB business number.
- Your account number is your National ID number. Key it in
- Enter amount to pay
- Enter your M-PESA PIN.
- Confirm your details,
- Click OK hit SEND
- You will get an Mpesa transaction confirmation message.
Online payment via HELB portal
- Register an account with HELB online portal.
- if you already have an account login
- Click on Online Services
- Select Online Payment
- Enter the amount you are paying
- Enter your national ID as your account number
- Click ‘Pay Now‘.
- A payment acknowledgement will be issued upon successful payment.
- An official receipt by HELB will be issued
Using your Equity ATM
- Insert your ATM card
- Enter your secret PIN number
- Go to ‘Pay bills’
- Choose ‘HELB’
- Enter National ID number when prompted.
- Money will be transferred to your HELB account
Using mobile applications like Wave
- Currently wave can allow you to make payments to HELB.
- Download the app to your device from Google Play store or go to www.sendwave.com
- Register with the application by filling in requisite details e.g. email address, phone number, names
- Log into your account
- Make payment to HELB using KCB account number 1103266314
Credit card
You can make huge transfers from your credit card to your HELB ACCOUNT. Mostly VISA powered cards do this easily. This also includes debit cards that can be utilized to make payments.
Bank deposits
ET, crossed cheques and bank deposits come in handy n making funds transfer to HELB.
There are several HELB collections accounts in most local banks that you can make your deposits.
Ensure you fill in your personal details like name and ID number when doing this.
These are some of the ways to repay your HELB loan.
If you are employed then you will be required by HELB to submit monthly deductions (Check-off) by 15TH of every month. You can notify you employer to remit your deductions. The minimum amount allowed by the lender is Ksh 1500 per month. The amount payable should not be more than 25% of your basic pay. If you make consistent payments, you will be issued with a certificate of compliance.
