CRB ratings play an important role especially if you are a job seeker or government appointee. First it’s important to realize that there are several Credit Reference Bureaus in the country. It’s important to check with the relevant listing company. Here are some of the ways in which you can ascertain your credit position.

How to apply for CRB report

Using SMS code 433

  • Dial *433#
  • Enter you ID number
  • Use agent Code: 222000
  • Confirm your personal Details

Making payments

  • Go to Mpesa
  • Select Lipa na Mpesa
  • Choose  Paybill
  • Enter Business Number : 220388
  • On the Account Number dialogue box fill in  your ID number
  • Key in ksh. 100
  • Send

Checking your status via Metropol

Registration is the first step in checking your status.

  • Go to your mpesa
  • Select paybill
  • Enter 220388
  • Enter your national ID number as your account number
  • On the amount dialogue box enter Ksh 50
  • You will receive a confirmation SMS from Mpesa to show your balance
  • Metropol will then send an SMS with PIN details and reference number
  • In addition to this you will get a special line which you will then follow
  • The reference bureau credit Score  will cost you 150,while  Credit Report comes at Ksh 250

Checking your Credit report via Transunion

This Reference bureau offers two ways of confirming your credit standing.

Using Transunion App

  • Go to Google Playstore
  • Enter Transunion App
  • Click download and install in your phone
  • Fill in your personal details
  • These include your phone number, ID and names
  • Click on Check status
  • If in their good books the app will show “GOOD’ on the dashboard

However you never get a detailed report granted the process of using app to check your rating is free. You will be needed to pay additional 650 to get a more comprehensive report.

 Using SMS to check your CRB rating

  • Open a blank text
  • Enter your  National ID number
  • Choose CC (meaning Credit Status)
  • Send this message to 21272
  • You will receive your CRB status.
  • Good ensures you are positively listed.
