To apply, you need to:

  • Make a visit to the National Registration Bureau offices in Nairobi which are situated along Bishop Road, Upper Hill, on the 7th floor of the NSSF building
  • With you, carry along copies of your waiting card as well as Kshs 300
  • Once there, talk to the staff at the reception, explain your situation and you’ll be directed to the 9th floor where your ID number will be printed out
  • From there you will be asked to obtain an official confirmation letter from the 10th floor, which confirms that your ID is still being processed and also confirms the authenticity of your waiting card’s serial number
  • The National Registration Bureau then shares the information with their counterparts in Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) who then proceed to generate for you a Personal Identification Number(P.I.N) that will be ready for collection after a few working days
  • You will now have the KRA P.I.N and your ID number that you can use for your application

What Do I need for a HELB Loan?

Basically, there are a number of things that you need to have for your first time HELB loan application. These are:

  • Copy of your National identification card
  • KRA PIN
  • A bank account
  • Email address
  • Parents/guardian details
  • Copy of your KCSE and KCPE results
  • Details of guarantors for the loan, including copies of their ID
  • Copy of the college/university admission letter
  • Three recent colored passport size photos
