What do I need to apply for a passport in Kenya?
There are several requirements you need to fulfill before application for a Kenyan passport. These are:
- Documents showing you are a Kenyan citizen e.g. Original & copies of birth Certificate and National Identity Card, or a Certificate of naturalization or registration and Renunciation Certificate of former citizenship
- Recommendation as per Section seven by either Legal practitioner, Minister of a religion, Civil Servant or bank official. This comes with a caveat, relatives cannot recommend an individual. In addition to this the persons must be well acquainted with you.
- A written consent from guardian or parents if applicant is below age of 18.
- For adopted individuals a court ruling, clearance form from children’s department and original adoption certificate.
- Passport control officer may require supplementary information at times in addition to the prescribed ones.
Kenya passports application guide
- Go to e-citizen.go.ke
- Register by filling in the empty fields with your name, ID number and phone number and email.
- Create a password
- After a successful registration, log into your account on the e-citizen platform
- Navigate to department of Immigration services on the dashboard
- Select the relevant application form that applies to you.
- There are three forms,children,adult and permit
- Select the relevant form
- You will be redirected to an applications guideline page
- Ensure you read the guidelines carefully
- Also pay attention to the billing on costs
- Go to the bottom of the page and click on APPLY
- You will get an online application form
- Fill in the empty dialogue boxes with accurate and relevant information
- Make sure you counter check your information including names, ID number et that may conflict with the system records
- Review the filled in information. If satisfied click on CONTINUE button
- You will be redirected to the PAYMENTS page
- Here you can select the mode form MPESA, credit card, e-citizen agent, debit card, or Airtel money.
- After selecting your payment method and making the necessary payments, go to the next page by clicking CONTINUE
- Print your online application form as proof of your application.
After this you can then
- Present three receipts of pre-filled application forms
- A photocopy of your Original birth certificate
- ID copies of recommenders
- Your Original ID and its photocopy
- In case of minors consent and ID copies of parents
You passport will then be processed by immigration department .You can then go to the department to pick your passport after 30 days.
