How to appeal for HELB loan

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) disburses funds and bursary to needy students both in universities and other institutions of higher learning. Given the strict criteria used by the lender, chances are you can either get your loan albeit a figure less than you expected or not get it at all. If you are faced with such a predicament, do not worry. The lender offers students an appeal window to explain their grievances or rectify factual inaccuracies.

What could cause lack of disbursement of your funds?

  • While each potential loanee case is assessed on its own merit, failure to secure a loan may be as a result of an error. Before embarking on an appeal establish if all the information you provided was accurate. In case there are errors either as a result of misrepresentation or mistake, ensure you point them out in your appeal.
  • Lesser loan allocation is a different problem. Granted the discretion the loans board enjoys when making an allocation, you would need documentary proof to convince the lender to allocate a higher amount.
  • In the event, your loan application form lacked a critical signature or stamp ensure you duly complete the form with the signature and stamp and attach them with your appeal. Some forms are rejected due to lack of oathing or crucial details.

HELB appeal steps

  • Ensure you check your loan status on the HELB portal first. Normally, the disbursements are announced before the commencement of a new academic year
  • Check the loans appeal deadline before an application
  • Get a loan appeals form after you log into the helb.co.ke portal
  • Select Students portal if you do not have an existing account you can then create one.
  • Log into your account filling in your email address and password
  • Check your loan status alternatively you can use HELB checker by entering your ID number to get valuable information.
  • Click on the loans appeal form
  • Complete the forms online by filling in the empty fields
  • Download the completed form
  • Sign where necessary, and get the relevant stamps and signatures
  • Drop off the forms in your nearest Huduma Center, you can mail the completed forms directly to HELB (P. O. Box 69489-00400, Nairobi) or physically drop them at Anniversary towers 18th floor.
  • Wait for a response by checking your students’ portal either through HELB app or on an HTML5 browser.

Appealing loan disbursement is an avenue for the lender to give a second chance, bona fide cases the needed loans to students. In case you are faced with such a situation ensure you exhaust the appeal option.
