It may occur a time when you may need to swap your Safaricom line. This may be due to your line getting lost or being damaged.

Also, prepaid customers may need to upgrade their line and enjoy new Safaricom services like 4G networks. This article will show you how to swap and activate your Safaricom line.

How to Swap your Safaricom line

Here, you will need a sim replacement card which goes at KSh 50. You can then do the sim swap yourself or contact the customer care.

To do it yourself;

  1. Insert the new Safaricom line in your device
  2. Dial *180*mobile number*original Pin*IMSI#. IMSI is the serial number on your new line.

To do it via customer care;

  1. Call customer care on 100. They will verify if your line belongs to you by asking a few questions.
  2. Read to them the serial number when asked
  3. Give your old PIN and mobile number.

Alternatively, you can reach them via Safaricom’s social media accounts. They will call you via the official customer care line 0722000000 to ask you a few questions and get your new line operational within a few minutes.

Activating M-Pesa on your new Safaricom line

After a successful SIM swap, you need to activate your M-Pesa account on the new line. Here is how:

  1. Go to Your sim toolkit
  2. Tap on M-Pesa to open the M-Pesa menu
  3. Tap on Activate or Wezesha
  4. Input your old PIN as the start key
  5. Input the PIN again to confirm
  6. Input the ID number you used during registration of your old line.

Your M-Pesa account will be activated on your new line. You can try checking your account balance to confirm.
